Tell your boss where to go, if he suggests cutting the budget.

by John Howlett

We’re talking about the advertising and marketing budget.
I can hear you saying are you crazy. These are tough times.
I’ll get fired. You may also get fired if you don’t tell him/her
Why? Face it sales are off almost everywhere. The last thing you need
is to try to perform miracles with half as much money.
Most especially when sales are down already by 20, 30, or 40%.
Who is crazy now dude?
Here’s how you can be a champ instead of a chump. And save your job.
If you have been in advertising or marketing for any period of time.
You know that in every past recession. Businesses that took an aggressive Position and stayed the course or even increased the budget. During recessions not only survived, but actually increased market share after the recession.
When the recession blows over and this one will just like all the rest. And before you get bullied into accepting a severe budget cut in your department. Tell your boss to go to Google and type in “advertising during a recession” he/She will find articles, white papers, studies that document these facts. Now if the boss persist anyway; start looking for a new job. Who wants to work for such a hard headed person?
If by chance the Google thing proves to be a convincing factor celebrate your leadership skills.
One last thing make sure you give him/her the credit for being so smart, when you get promoted.

Your sales results will soar if you listen at least three times as much as you talk.
